From one side of the world to another, SeaDek is changing the way people boat. Batavian Rubber, a SeaDek Certified Fabricator based in Featherston, New Zealand, just returned from exhibiting at the Auckland on water boat show and reported a great turnout. Located in the heart of the Auckland Viaduct, it is the show for everything marine and boating, including boats of all sizes, motors, kayaks, accessories, and more.
The Batavian booth looked super:

When we say that the uses for SeaDek are endless, we really mean it! We just received these photos from Scott and Jeanne Kurtz of Contemporary Marine Flooring, a SeaDek Certified Fabricator based in Spokane, Washington.
Their dog, Eddie, loves to go riding with them and just got his own personal trailer so they don’t have to leave him at home. To help him get in and out, and so everyone knew whose trailer it was, Scott made this custom SeaDek pad just for Eddie. Good for you Eddie!
Contemporary Marine Flooring services the Pacific Northwest and can travel to your boat or marina for custom SeaDek service.

Since our very beginnings with EVA foam over twenty years ago, even long before SeaDek, we have taken great pride in manufacturing high quality products that surpass expectations. Most people probably don’t realize that we were a family business making traction pads for the surfing industry long before the boating world knew what EVA flooring was. We even designed a custom line of pads for 11-time world champion surfer Kelly Slater.
Our materials were painstakingly tested and re-formulated time and time again to reach the benchmark of quality that we demanded, and this dedication to quality is what led us to become the trusted supplier of many of the leading boat builders in the world. We were moving forward, unafraid of failure, on a quest for innovation. And we never thought twice about it. That was just who we were. What we stood for.
And it still is.
While we have grown as a company, our mission has remained unchanged: to deliver the highest quality products possible and provide 100% customer satisfaction 100% of the time.
In 2013 we became an ISO 9001:2008 certified company. The International Standards Organization certifies companies who employ a detailed quality management system and pass a rigorous audit verifying that all aspects of the manufacturing process are in accordance with the system. This certification enables us to accurately manage the quality of our product through every step of production.
Every single batch of foam that enters our factory is subject to extensive testing as specified by the ASTM (American Society of Testing and Materials) to ensure compliance with our quality standards. We have an in-house laboratory with professional, industry-standard testing equipment that is calibrated yearly by a third party organization. The lab is staffed with full time technicians, and our testing equipment runs 24 hours a day.
After sampling incoming foam, our materials are subject to two weather tests in our specialized accelerated weathering chambers. The first is an artificial UV light chamber, which subjects the material to accelerated UV rays and tests for polymer degradation that would indicate a material non-conformity. The second is another accelerated weather test using xenon light in the visible spectrum to verify color-fastness. Combined, these two tests confirm the material’s ability to stand up to the rigors of outdoor applications without fading or breaking down.
After weather testing, the samples are tested to confirm that their physical properties are within our acceptable parameters, including all adhesives. These ASTM tests include a durometer test that measures hardness, a shrinkage test, compression test, stretch test, and a tear strength test. Additionally, the samples are subject to a 90° peel test and a T peel test to verify the strength of the adhesive.
Once all these tests are completed satisfactorily, the batch of material is cleared to leave quarantine and enter the facility, where it again is inspected every step of the way through production for conformance to our quality standards.
We feel confident that we have the most rigorous material testing procedure in the industry, but at the end of the day, it is our products that speak for themselves. Quality is a full time job, but for us, SeaDek is more than a swim platform pad or a logo or an ad campaign; it is a passion for what we do. It is a love of life on the water. It is who we are.

As many residents of the Southeast begin to dig out from the impact of Hurricane Matthew, we are fortunate to report that the SeaDek facility and our employees narrowly missed the worst effects of the storm. Thanks to a slight eastward shift late Thursday night, the center of the storm remained just offshore, sparing us the potentially devastating landfall. Damage was limited to downed trees, localized flooding, and minor structural damage, making us extremely lucky to have avoided the brunt of the storm.
On Tuesday, the forecast indicated a likely Brevard County impact and the decision was made to begin preparations and implement our Hurricane Emergency Preparedness Plan. With many employees under a mandatory evacuation notice from the barrier islands, the SeaDek family banded together and converted the factory into a makeshift storm shelter for employees, families, and pets. After boarding windows and securing the facility, we parked over 30 vehicles amongst our machines on the factory floor and hunkered down to ride out the storm. The strength of the SeaDek team was never more apparent, and the display of camaraderie was truly inspiring.
While our thoughts are with all those more severely affected by the storm, we are happy to inform our customers that the factory is back to full production capacity as of Monday morning. There should be no disruption to the supply chain, and we thank everyone that has reached out to us during the uncertainty of the storm. Please feel free to contact us with any specific concerns and we will do our best to accommodate.
On October 4-6, SeaDek will be introducing their next generation of innovative new non-skid products at IBEX 2016, the marine industry’s premier technology tradeshow. If you will be attending the show, be sure to stop by booth 337 to say hello to the SeaDek team and explore the exciting new SeaDek options that will be coming to market in the coming months.
In addition to our booth, we will also be showcasing a Nautique GS 20 in slip 50 of the in-water displays. The GS 20 comes completely SeaDeked with new pads and styles that will certainly pave the way for future generations of marine non-skid products.
SeaDek is a UV-resistant closed-cell EVA decking material that delivers exceptional traction, comfort underfoot, and breathtaking aesthetics to boats of all sizes and styles. Fully customizable and available in a wide variety of colors, thicknesses and textures, there is a place for SeaDek on every boat. We look forward to meeting you showing you why your boats deserve SeaDek!
We recently finished a custom factory SeaDek installation on a Grady White 226 Seafarer, and by the end of the install it looked like a completely different boat. Joseph Loffek, the Principal of Gemini Elementary School in Melbourne Beach, FL, initially wanted pads made for his Armstrong bracket, but after scanning the deck, the decision was made to go all the way.
Our custom installation team designed pads for the entire boat in Cool Gray over Black with a brushed texture, featuring our new 20mm Dual Density pads on the cabin top and in the helm area. These pads utilize a 17mm low-density bottom layer for increased shock-absorption and comfort, while the 3mm standard density top layer ensures traction and durability. These pads really are the best of both worlds, and are the perfect choice for boaters that spend prolonged periods of time on their feet.

SeaDek is a customizable non-skid solution for nearly any type of watercraft. The material is a nonabsorbent, closed cell EVA Foam (think rod grips) that feels as good on your feet (and knees and back…) as it looks. The material is available in a rainbow of colors and a variety of thicknesses.
The folks at SeaDek also laminate two different colors of sheet-material together so when your logo or boat name is CNC machined, the bottom color shows through giving an awesome custom look.
As a bonus, the SeaDek material not only cushions your feet, it will quiet down your boat from both stomping (think white seabass) and engine noise/vibration and literally, NOTHING will slide around on deck.
If you ask anyone who spends time on the water in Florida about SeaDek, they will know and love the product.
After experiencing SeaDek on several boats in Florida, we knew we had to have it on our boat here in California. Our first call was to Blue Seas Fabrication or (858) 232-4188). The team at Blue Seas has become the only SeaDek Certified Fabricator on the West coast. Blue Seas has all the material, tools and know how to completely pimp out the deck of your boat or watercraft.
Ken and James at Blue Seas Fabrication explained the entire process in detail. The steps are pretty simple:
Choose your material and colors. (6mm is the standard thickness for most decks)
The crew at Blue Seas will then use a 3D computer scanner to create a template of the deck, swim step, cabin or anywhere else you want to apply SeaDek.
Work with Blue Seas on your custom design and approve a PDF proof
The material is then cut on a precision CNC router to your exact specifications
The Blue Seas team will schedule an appointment to install the material, which usually takes just a couple of hours depending on the complexity and size of the job.
We went down to check out the operation and put our hands on some of the material options. In the end we settled on one of the most popular color combinations, Storm Grey over Black in the most common 6mm thickness with a brushed surface texture.
With the material chosen, we discussed some of the design options and decided to go with a custom Faux Teak pattern with a unique wider board width. This would allow the black material to show through to simulate the caulk lines and also give us a two-tone look with the logos we wanted to include.
We loved the material so much we decided to go over the top and not only do our decks, but also our counters and galley table. The nonskid material is perfect for keeping things in their place (like our often dropped coffee maker).
We also opted to use the thick coaming pad material (20mm thick, soft low density foam) to cover our bench seat on the bridge and the tops of our engine boxes.
James with Blue Seas came out to the boat and scanned all the surfaces to be covered using a high tech 3D scanner.
He quickly traced all the existing nonskid areas making sure to work around all fittings, latches and hinges. In a short time he had a complete 3D model of our decks and counter tops.
Over the next couple days, James worked up the various areas in the boat in CAD and sent us proofs including the logos we wanted built into the materials. We added a few custom touches like our boat logo, a swordfish on the steps and an Innovator logo.
After a few final tweaks the design was done. Since we were using one of the more common color combos all the material for our boat was in stock. You are can select any combo of colors from the SeaDek palette you like, but it will take a few extra weeks for the material to be custom made .
Our deck was in pretty bad shape and need to be cleaned up before the install. This is where we called Mark from Monsoon Yacht Service. Mark is our paint and gelcoat guy and he can be reached at (619) 405-2176. We asked Mark to paint all the waterways in the deck so once we put the SeaDek down all of the areas that still show would look like new. Mark did a great job and the SeaDek came out looking awesome.
A couple more days passed and James called to schedule the install. We met him down at the boat where he installed the entire kit in an afternoon! The install is technically simple, but as we observed, there is quite a bit of skill, patience and “eyeball” involved. If you elect to install your own SeaDek kit, Blues Seas will be happy to instruct and guide you through it to get the best results.
The final product looks and feels amazing!
After a half dozen tuna trips on boat, the SeaDek still looks great. We have gotten blood, coffee, mustard and scales all over the material and it just washes right off. At the end of the day we just scrub the deck with boat soap and it shines up like new again. We did get a couple rust stains on the material but those cleaned up easily with a little Soft Scrub and a hand brush.
So far, everyone that has ridden on the boat since we installed the SeaDek has wanted it for his or her boats as well. You really have to experience the product to understand. It’s so nice and soft we can fish barefoot now. The thicker material on the engine boxes has definitely quieted down the engine noise. Nothing slides around in the galley or on the salon table. Did I mention it looks great too?
SeaDek isn’t just for boat decks. They have installed the material on swim steps, paddleboards, sailboats, windsurfers, golf carts, trailer interiors and just about anywhere else.
Now the big question, HOW MUCH?
We found the pricing to be just a little bit more than what we were quoted to grind the existing nonskid down and replace it. The extra money is totally worth all the benefits that SeaDek offers compared to just paint and nonskid material.
We absolutely love our new, custom SeaDek. Give the guys at Blue Seas Fabrication a call and experience the product for yourself.
Last month the SeaDek team made there way up to Milwaukee for the Malibu Open, one of the premier professional water ski events of the season. As a returning event sponsor, the team was on hand with plenty of SeaDek swag and good vibes. Thanks to everyone who braved the rain and stopped by to say Hello!
