SeaDek’s Closed-cell Foam Helps Quiet Sea Ray SLX Models

QUIETRIDE™

THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE SILENCE
A closer look at the exclusive Quiet Ride technology that reduces noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) up to 50 percent on a Sea Ray.

Screen Shot 2014-03-19 at 12.07.46 PM

THE PROBLEM:

Maximum performance requires sacrificing the comfort of the ride, because an engine at full throttle generates significant sound and vibration energy.

THE METHOD: Engineers measured 48 points on Sea Ray sport boats at idle and full cruising speed to isolate the sources of decibels, vibration energy and harshness. In-depth vibration analysis showed how to dampen and interrupt vibration flow at the source.

INTERPRETING THE DATA: Performance and a comfortable ride aren’t mutually exclusive if you can reduce vibration energy at the source. To accomplish this, engineers started from the literal drawing board, redesigning new Sea Rays with integrated Quiet Ride technology.

THE SOLUTION:

Exclusive to Sea Ray SLX models, Quiet Ride uses a multi-pronged approach to dampen NVH at its root sources.

FIT AND FINISH: Closed-cell foam knocks down NVH. Neoprene isolators and mounting brackets reduce vibration. Heavy-duty magnets, latches, bumpers and gaskets ensure silence from hatches. Wind-struck edges are fared to let the wind slip by silently.

ENERGY-DISSIPATING HULL LAMINATE: Sea Ray’s specially engineered hull laminates convert vibration and noise energy into heat energy, which water whisks away.

FULL-BEAM BULKHEADS: Full-beam bulkheads and full-stop blocks in the boat’s cavities trap and isolate energy, preventing sound from traveling and surfacing elsewhere on the boat.

BONDED STRUCTURE AND BUFFERED HULL:
A well-buffered hull offers acoustical insulation, while structurally bonded hulls, liners and decks reduce vibration.

TUNED TRANSOM®: Borrowing vibration-abating technology from space shuttles and jet engines, the Tuned Transom from Omni Products short-circuits energy at the source to dampen excessive noise.

Do It Yourself SeaDek Applications

photo

Here is a great example of what you can do with SeaDek DIY sheet material. One of our customers just sent in this photo of a pad he cut for his forward deck which he uses as a fishing platform. He simply purchased a large sheet from our online store: http://www.seadek.com/c-5-sheet-material.aspx , made a template and used a sharp razor to carefully cutout his pad. Application was the easiest part; just clean the surface with acetone or window clearer, peel and stick using our 3M marine grade PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive). It’s that easy.

Ross Gallagher Getting It Done

Ross Gallagher from the Intrepid Angler sent these over last week. That’s quite a catch from a kayak! Way to go Ross! We recently made a kayak nonskid kit for Ross’ Hobie Pro Angle 14. Check out his install video: http://youtu.be/ou110BQfyKw

SeaDek Kayak Kits can be purchased here: http://www.seadek.com/c-97-kayak-non-skid-pads.aspx

The tarpon bite has remained consistent the past few weeks. Pods of hungry migratory (pretty sure) fish have been staging up. I really only have the chance to target them at night, but they are feeding in the same areas you’d target them during the day.
Hogy Hobie Kayak TarponI’ve had the best success using Hogy Lures 10″ Original Series Soft Baits rigged on circle hook using the Hogy Stainless Bait Keeper – It’s like a hitch hiker on steroids. When fish are not feeding on top, use a large 7″ – 10″ paddle tail on a 1oz – 2oz Heavy Duty Jig Head. I like the Barbarian Series Jigs, they are super sharp, strong and have a pretty decent landing ratio for tarpon (usually 40-50%)
Boat Side Landing Tarpon

Tackle wise, I’ve been very happy using my Sewell 8′ Custom Tarpon Rod –Shimano Sustain FG 10K – 50lb Power Pro and 80lb Mono Leader. Stop by Anderson Tackle of S. Fort Myers and he can order those Sustain’s in time for season. I’ve landed 2 seasons worth of adult tarpon on the reel and it’s held up incredibly well. It’s also super light when paired with the Sewell Rod – Just under 2lbs.

Hope the info helps. I can’t wait until fishing really turns on in the next couple weeks.
