I was just over at Lake Fairview Marina (http://lakefairviewmarina.com/) last week pulling some deck templates from Sunfish and Laser sailboats. Many of these boats have little or no nonskid on the decks and can be very dangerous. We are working on creating some standardized SeaDek kits for some of the boats that will eventually be available on our online store. I’m looking for a few text pilots so if you have some experience with these boats and would like to share your thoughts and maybe try out a kit during this research & development period please shoot me an email, email@example.com.
I realize that for the serious racer weight is a concern. I’m guestimating that a full deck kit with me only a few pounds and a more limited race kit could probably be brought down to only a pound or two.
For the recreational sailor, the vast majority of owners, the comfort and non-skid characteristics will be a huge plus. I remember as a kid slipping and sliding all over our sunfish, kids fallings off the bow, bumping shins and knees. Would have been great to have some padding back then.
These pads will also be easy to install. No more messy paint and aggregate nonskid application. Just peel and stick with our marine grade, acrylic based pressure sensitive adhesive. They are also visually appealing. a great way to add some color to your boat and custom logos, boat names or club icons could be cut right into them for a custom fee.
I’ll be posting more in the weeks to come so please check back and email me with any questions or suggestions you might have.
Finally, thank you to Kim and everyone over at Lake Fairview Marina. They were very kind in letting me drop in and use their boats and they have a great selection or beautiful sailboats and powerboats. If you live in the central Florida area please stop in and check them out.
