Money can be tight, and when choosing upgrades for your boat, we don’t blame you for shopping around to get the best deal. But if your boat is your baby (or even if it’s not), avoid the temptation to save a few dollars by settling for inferior flooring products. SeaDek was the very first PE/EVA boat flooring on the market, which is why we refer to ourselves as The Original Marine Flooring, but as years have gone by, we have seen more and more imitation products enter the marketplace, causing lots of headaches for boaters that are fooled by their “same as SeaDek but cheaper” marketing ploys.
The reality is, many of these knock-off products look just as good as Genuine SeaDek when new, leading customers to believe they really are the same, but unfortunately, the ugly truth usually shows itself months and years down the road when the material peels up and/or falls apart, leaving the owner with little recourse and a mess on deck to take care of.
At this point, you may be asking yourself why SeaDek actually is better. That’s fair! What could really happen if you choose a knock-off to save a few bucks? Also, a good question. That’s why we have broken down the five main reasons to choose Genuine SeaDek when it comes time to pick flooring for your boat.
Material degradation is a fancy way of saying many generic products fall apart over time. While it may be soon after installation or even a couple of years down the road, imitation products don’t use the same UV stable formula that we have spent more than a decade perfecting, and eventually fade, crack, crumble apart, and ultimately disintegrate. Flooring for your boat is a big investment, and the last thing you want is to see chunks of it accumulating in your deck drains when it begins to break down in its first season.
This one is pretty self-explanatory, and we talk about it a lot: just because a product has adhesive, doesn’t mean it’s the same adhesive as Genuine SeaDek uses. What we’re saying is, our propietary adhesive blend has been tested over and over again in our in house lab and in the real world, in every environment you can imagine. While anybody can purchase a CNC table and make it run, it takes years of learning the perfect recipe (tooling, feed rates, bits, etc.,) to get the crisp, clean cuts of Genuine SeaDek. For those who have already chosen an inferior product that is beginning to fail, the next step is removing the bad product before starting over. A failed deck is much more difficult to remove than intact SeaDek, as it crumbles and comes apart when you try and peel it up, leaving a sticky
mess that takes many hours of tedious work to remove altogether. Avoid this painstaking situation and never install a low-quality decking product on your boat.
They say the two happiest days of a boat owner’s life are the day they buy it and the day they sell it.
