Does SeaDek Clean Easily?
(THE ANSWER IS YES!)
SeaDek is made for boats – which means it’s going to get dirty. SeaDek was founded by boaters – so we get it. Our product is made to withstand a harsh marine environment and everything that comes along with it. Blood, guts, dirt, grime, slime, you name it, SeaDek has seen it all. The SeaDek material is a closed cell PE/EVA material that doesn’t absorb water (or dirt) and cleans easily. You can clean SeaDek with a brush, soap and water and even a number of household cleaning products (just stay away from acid based cleaners like Mary-Kates Hull Cleaner).
The best method to clean SeaDek though, is using Dek Magic, which is SeaDek’s genuine branded cleaner, formulated specifically for PE/EVA foam. Here’s how to use it:
1. Liberally spray Dek Magic on the affected area
2. Use a medium-bristled boat brush to work the cleaner into the SeaDek
3. Let it sit for 3-5 minutes
4. Dampen the area and scrub again
5. Rinse thoroughly with water and dry with a clean towel
Alternative cleaning methods: If Dek Magic is not available, no worries! There are several alternative cleaning options available:
General Cleaning (Dirt, Footprints, etc.):
Use an all-purpose cleaner, degreaser, or dish soap with warm water. Work the soapy mixture into the SeaDek with a medium-bristled brush. Rinse with clean water and repeat if necessary.
Suntan Lotion:
Use an all-purpose cleaner or degreaser with a medium-bristled brush. Scrub until the oil stain is removed. Rinse with clean water and repeat if needed.
Fish Blood:
Mix 1 cup of bleach with 1 gallon of warm water. Scrub in a circular motion until the blood is lifted. Rinse thoroughly and repeat if necessary.
Rust Stains:
Use a cap full of vinegar or oxalic acid. Apply to the rust stain and allow it to soak for 3-5 minutes. Rinse with water and repeat if necessary.
