We’ve posted this before but I’d like to repost to help clarify our stock and custom products program:

I saw on one of the kayak forums today a debate about SeaDek kayak kits and the pricing for various kits and options. I don’t like to go on the forums in the middle of a thread because I think it ends up looking like I’m just trying to hock our products for free if we’re not a site sponsor so I thought I’d post this on our blog and social media sites and try to clear up any confusion.

First off the kayak kits have been a huge success and we are trying to add as many new patterns as we can, as quickly as we can. The process of capturing templates, verifying fit and producing the kits takes a bit of time but we’re getting more efficient with each one that we do.

Secondly, we are a US manufacturer. These pads are not coming in on a ship from China by the thousands, we’re producing them here in our factory. Currently we are only “stocking” two color combinations; one color storm gray or army camo because those are what have been ordered the most by our customers. We produce them in quantity and have them on the shelf and ready to ship. EVA comes in a large sheet and the more parts we can cut from a single sheet the better the pricing. We try to nest parts for absolute best yield. Sometimes that means we can’t include certain parts of a kayak kit in the stock offering.

We can make a “custom” kit for any kayak. You can chose any single color or combination of any two colors that we offer. Because these pads are custom, it costs more for us to make them and thus the price is higher than the stock kits.
