On Tuesday, April 11, captains, fishing guides, anglers, and industry leaders will converge on Capitol Hill to make their collective voices heard by legislators and elected officials from all districts of Florida.

Their goal is to persuade legislators to restore the natural southern flow of lake waters by utilizing funds to acquire land south of Lake Okeechobee. By restoring this flow, damaging fresh water outflows to the eastern and western estuaries would diminish, and the Everglades would return to a more natural salinity level that it’s ecosystem needs to flourish.

The event will feature meetings on Capitol Hill, exhibits from many prominent companys in the marine and sport fishing industries, and a party at the Edison restaurant in Cascade Park. The SeaDek team will be on hand at the park in the SeaDek tent with giveaways, and will also have representation at the Capitol. Everyone who has an interest in the health of Florida’s waterways is encouraged to attend to support this movement-time is running out to save this precious resource.

About Captains For Clean Water
Captains for Clean Water is a grassroots 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that advocates for the elimination of harmful, large-scale Lake Okeechobee discharges into the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie River Estuaries by restoring the natural flow of Lake Okeechobee water south into the Everglades and Florida Bay. Restoring the natural southern flow of Lake Okeechobee water is essential to the survival of our estuaries, the health of the Everglades, and the long-term viability of South Florida’s largest drinking water source (the Biscayne Aquifer).
