SeaDek Goes Wild!

Meet Josie, a 26-year-old Baird’s Tapir that resides at the Brevard Zoo.  She is resting comfortably on her bed by EndeavourDek. Josie is currently living her best life behind the scenes as she awaits her new home’s construction in “Rainforest Revealed” which is scheduled to open this fall.

The Brevard Zoo has partnered with The Lowland Tapir Conservation Initiative to support ongoing research and conservation projects in Brazil. Baird’s Tapirs are listed on the endangered species list with less than 5,500 remaining in the wild. Josie has been a mother six times which is a huge accomplishment considering there are less than 40 Baird’s Tapirs currently in captivity. Her bed was graciously donated by SeaDek’s sister company – EndeavourDek – this spring and is a beautiful Storm Gray color topped with a custom lasered Realtree Timber Camouflage pattern. Utilizing a unique blend of closed-cell, UV-resistant PE/EVA foam, Josie’s pad is 20mm thick to ensure the nearly 500-pound mammal gets her beauty rest!
