As the Volvo Ocean Race kicked off on Sunday, the crew of Team Brunel was sure-footed as they departed Alicante en route to Lisbon with custom SeaDek non-skid installed throughout their VOR 65. As the official team of the Netherlands, Team Brunel is one of only seven teams embarking on a journey that puts the human will and spirit to the ultimate test in some of the fiercest ocean conditions on the planet.
After reaching Lisbon, the second leg of the race will take the teams through the Southern Atlantic to Cape Town, in a potentially grueling stretch of water that is sure to challenge the most experienced sailors.
Earlier in the season, Team Brunel contacted the SeaDek team in hopes of installing SeaDek’s innovative PE/EVA nonskid products throughout their Volvo Ocean Race 65. With a short timeframe to work around as the boat was undergoing preparations for the race, UK-based SeaDek Certified Fabricator Pro-Cast was able to cut the parts and make the trip to Lisbon to perform a stellar installation on the boat—just in time for the beginning of the race. Without SeaDek’s extensive international presence, such a quick turnaround may not have been possible.
