Backcountry Purple Heart Slam a Success for Vets

On May 13-14, Project Healing Waters Inc. ( and the United States Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment ( hosted the inaugural “Backcountry Purple Heart Slam” at Whitewater Bay in Everglades National park.

The event was a two-day fishing experience for twelve active duty/retired wounded marines (all Purple Heart recipients) in order to assist in their medical recovery and rehabilitation.

SeaDek was a proud sponsor of the event, and sent down some SeaDek gear for the guys to wear on the boats and after the weekend was over.

Backcountry_edits_small-1Six volunteer fishing guides took the Marines on a fishing adventure through the backcountry of the Everglades, and they all landed some really nice fish. One Marine summed up the event saying, “It was the best day of my life.”

What a great cause for the heroes of our country. We are so glad that the weekend was a success and happy that we could contribute.
